Fistral Beach
Fistral Beach, located on the western edge of Newquay, Cornwall, is renowned as one of the UK's premier surfing destinations. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, this expansive sandy beach offers consistent waves year-round, attracting surfers from around the globe. The beach is flanked by Towan Head to the north and Pentire Point East to the south, creating a picturesque setting backed by rugged cliffs and sand dunes .
Beyond surfing, Fistral Beach is a family-friendly spot with ample space for sunbathing, beach games, and coastal walks. The beach is equipped with facilities including surf equipment hire, lessons, showers, toilets, and a variety of eateries and cafes .
The walk from Breakwater to Fistral Beach is approximately 500m and takes about 8 minutes on foot. The route is straightforward: turn left out of the hostel and take the path through the middle of the golf course. The path is relatively flat and suitable for most walkers.

Towan Beach, affectionately known as "Town Beach," is nestled in the heart of Newquay, Cornwall. Sheltered by Towan Headland and adjacent to Newquay Harbour, it offers a safe haven for families and novice surfers alike. At low tide, it seamlessly connects with neighbouring beaches like Great Western and Tolcarne, creating an expansive stretch of golden sand.
One of the beach's most iconic features is "The Island," a towering rocky outcrop connected to the mainland by a 90-foot suspension bridge. This unique landmark houses a private residence, adding a touch of intrigue to the picturesque landscape.
Towan Beach is easily accessible from Newquay's town centre, with nearby amenities including cafes, shops, and the Blue Reef Aquarium. Lifeguards patrol the beach during the summer months, ensuring a safe environment for all visitors.
The walk from Breakwater Hostel to Towan Beach is approximately 0.3 miles (0.5 kilometres) and takes about 5 to 7 minutes on foot. The route is straightforward: head southwest on Tower Road, continue onto Beach Road, and follow the path down to the beach. Please note that the final descent to the beach is relatively steep, so appropriate footwear is recommended.
